The Yarra Valley is our home. Our winery is located in Healesville and with the exception of our beloved Strathbogie Ranges Vineyard, this is the region we are now focussed on. The Yarra Valley is incredibly diverse in climate, soils, rainfall (650mm-950mm) and elevation (50-400m). While considered a cool climate, there is a large range of conditions to suit a range of varieties and styles.
Mac Forbes is focussing on cooler sites for pinot noir and chardonnay and the warmer lower Yarra sites for both the 'Hugh' cabernet blend and syrah.
The red stable mate of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir is the variety responsible for red Burgundy. A famously difficult variety to grow and make, Pinot Noir is the Holy Grail for Mac.

Chardonnay is recognised globally. Ranging from a solid workhorse to a grape that can produce some of the worlds most pure and ethereal wines, this grape surprisingly provides the team with some of their biggest challenges.

Mac is working with Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Petit verdot and Malbec, all varieties which are grown in Bordeaux and as is tradition there, blended into one wine.

Also known as Shiraz, the Rhone Valley is its spiritual home. Using the name Syrah signifies the more elegant style that Mac is chasing with this variety.
